*REPLAY* Where Does Satellite Technology Sit Within The Mix To Accelerate The Bridging Of Africa’s Digital Divide ? Discussion With A Spotlight on Education

CONTEXT

The round table participants will discuss how satellite broadband can be efficiently and rapidly deployed in areas that suffer from a non-existing, intermittent or slow broadband connectivity with specific focus on more rural Sub Saharan African areas. The panel will shine a spotlight on the impact of the pandemic on the education sector and give their unique institutional and commercial perspectives on how satellite broadband can help.

The expected outcome is to contribute to a mindset change within African governments, IFIs and funders representatives about the quality and affordability of satellite high speed internet solutions that are now available over Africa. It is also to make them aware that new generation satellite connectivity represents a unique opportunity to provide universal broadband access over the territories and bridge the digital divide as requested by the United Nations SDGs.

Les intervenants échangeront sur la manière dont le haut débit par satellite peut être déployé efficacement et rapidement dans les zones non ou mal couvertes en connectivité à haut-débit, en particulier les zones rurales Afrique sub-saharienne.

Les panellistes donneront leur point de vue, d’institutionnel ou de représentant du secteur privé, sur l’impact de la pandémie sur le secteur de l’éducation et les solutions que peut apporter le satellite à la situation actuelle.

L’objectif est de faire prendre conscience aux représentants des gouvernements africains et des bailleurs de fonds de la qualité et de la compétitivité élevées des solutions d’accès haut-débit par satellite de nouvelle génération, aujourd’hui immédiatement disponibles sur le continent africain. Ces solutions rendent techniquement possible un accès universel au haut-débit et un comblement de la fracture numérique, tels que souhaités par les Nations Unies dans les Objectifs de Développement Durable.
